Good Morning! Breakfasts without Gluten, Sugar, Eggs or Dairy (with a Giveaway)

If you’re like my family and cannot have gluten, dairy, eggs or refined sugar then you know how challenging breakfast can be!  For the past few months we’ve been enjoying green smoothies and homemade breakfast sausage…7 days a week…and we were in need of a little change up, at least on the weekends.  So, when my friend Ricki Heller of Diet, Dessert and Dogs asked if she could send me her new e-book Good Morning: Breakfasts without Gluten, Sugar, Eggs or Dairy, I jumped at the opportunity because breakfast has definitely become my most challenging meal of the day!

I think it was sometime last summer that my Twitter feed began to light up over Ricki Heller’s cookbook, “Sweet Freedom: Desserts You’ll Love without Wheat, Eggs, Dairy, or Refined Sugar.”  Not only were my blogger friends raving over Ricki’s healthy creations, but so was Ellen Degeneres (seriously, check it out here)!

All the chatter certainly piqued my interest but I have to admit, there was still part of me that was skeptical.  I totally got the “no wheat” part, but no eggs, dairy or refined sugar either?  What kind of desserts were they, the kind made of plastic that my kids play with in their toy kitchen?! 😉

So, I bought the book and boy am I glad I did, especially since it was only a few weeks later that we began the odyssey of losing dairy, eggs, and a litany of other traditional baking ingredients! 😯

Ricki’s recipes in Sweet Freedom proved to me that yes, you “can have your cake and eat it too!” (note: many of the recipes in Sweet Freedom call for Spelt Flour, but you can easily substitute your favorite gluten-free flour blend, they work great with my favorite, Better Batter Gluten Free Flour!).

Ricki’s e-book, Good Morning: Breakfasts without Gluten, Sugar, Eggs or Dairy has proved to me once again that foods without dairy, eggs or refined sugars are absolutely wonderful and don’t leave you feeling the least bit deprived.

This is all very new to us ….but this looks like a GREAT book to have! It seems rather difficult to find breakfast recipes that don't include egg or milk–even if they are gluten free. Yet, your book covers all her intolerances! How exciting!

This looks like a book for me! I can not have dairy, soy, gluten, or egg. There is more but those are the biggies!

I find in very changelling to feed myself. Sometimes I am so lost, I am stuck eating foods that make me sick.

Your book looks like a perfect fit for me. Thank you!

  68. This would come in handy at our house! I'm newly gluten-free and still trying to figure out some new recipes!

  69. I would LOVE to win this book. I recently found out my 15 month old son is allergic to wheat, milk, peanuts, and eggs. This has overwhelmed me, but blogs like yours have reassured me that life can and will go on! Does you know of a Cheerio-type alternative out there? I am dying for some finger food snacks for him! He is in the process of learning how to eat table food so it would need to be highly dissolvable.

    Help!!!

  71. Don't enter me in the giveaway, but don't you just love Ricki's recipes? I have Sweet Freedom too – her imagination is amazing.

I have already noticed a big difference in the 4 or 5 weeks that she's been off of it. She's a VERY picky eater so I'd love some more ideas of what to feed her!! Thanks for the chance to win.

  81. Great review of her ebook Heidi! Love the pic and your description of your experience with Ricki and her creations 🙂 For some reason I am not getting your posts in my email anymore. I'll try signing up again. xo
