If you’re like my family and cannot have gluten, dairy, eggs or refined sugar then you know how challenging breakfast can be! For the past few months we’ve been enjoying green smoothies and homemade breakfast sausage…7 days a week…and we were in need of a little change up, at least on the weekends. So, when my friend Ricki Heller of Diet, Dessert and Dogs asked if she could send me her new e-book Good Morning: Breakfasts without Gluten, Sugar, Eggs or Dairy, I jumped at the opportunity because breakfast has definitely become my most challenging meal of the day!
I think it was sometime last summer that my Twitter feed began to light up over Ricki Heller’s cookbook, “Sweet Freedom: Desserts You’ll Love without Wheat, Eggs, Dairy, or Refined Sugar.” Not only were my blogger friends raving over Ricki’s healthy creations, but so was Ellen Degeneres (seriously, check it out here)!
All the chatter certainly piqued my interest but I have to admit, there was still part of me that was skeptical. I totally got the “no wheat” part, but no eggs, dairy or refined sugar either? What kind of desserts were they, the kind made of plastic that my kids play with in their toy kitchen?! 😉
So, I bought the book and boy am I glad I did, especially since it was only a few weeks later that we began the odyssey of losing dairy, eggs, and a litany of other traditional baking ingredients! 😯
Ricki’s recipes in Sweet Freedom proved to me that yes, you “can have your cake and eat it too!” (note: many of the recipes in Sweet Freedom call for Spelt Flour, but you can easily substitute your favorite gluten-free flour blend, they work great with my favorite, Better Batter Gluten Free Flour!).
Ricki’s e-book, Good Morning: Breakfasts without Gluten, Sugar, Eggs or Dairy has proved to me once again that foods without dairy, eggs or refined sugars are absolutely wonderful and don’t leave you feeling the least bit deprived.

This looks like an awesome cookbook!
Okay, you know I already "like" you on FB. But if you really need an ego boost I'll like you again. And again and again until you believe me. :-))
It definitely seems as though I have some insecurities, doesn't it? LOL!
You know i've never purchased an e-book (although I've been tempted by all of Ricki's) because I wonder if I'll have enough paper and ink in the printer. It's just because I need something else to be paranoid about, I wouldn't want my heart rate to drop.
ROFL! Know what I do? I just save the e-book to my desktop then I print out whatever recipe I need at the moment.
Yes, I do like dietdessertdogs on FB that way there's no slobber.
Looks wonderful!
Oh! Oh! pick me, pick me 🙂 Only if it has recipes that follow, milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nut, oat, and pea free 🙂
Love this! Always looking for new idea for my allergic son 🙂
Thanks!

Thanks so much, Heidi! And I am thrilled to know that the recipes in Sweet Freedom can be so easily adapted (about 1/3 are already GF, but the book was published before I stopped eating gluten). If your readers are looking for yet another review of Good Morning! Breakfast, here's one with lots of photos, too. 😀
This sounds like a od book! I'm new to gf living & my breakfasts are so far pretty boring.
*good, not od!
I would love a copy of the book. I can't eat sugar because of Candida and I am allergic to all of the top eight allergies and then some. If I have to eat another bowl of plain steel cut oats I think I will go postal!
I can't wait to try some of her recipes!
I like you on fb already!
That looks like a fantastic recipe collection!
I have to admit, my breakfasts have been getting a bit on the repetitive side. It would be nice to have a little change of pace.

Wow Heidi, I think I am just a few steps behind you on this health journey. I just made the decision to get my candida under control that I need to go sugar free. I think this will be harder than gluten, dairy, soy, or corn.

Oh I would love to win this book! I am really struggling with breakfast right now, I need all the help I can get! Thanks.
I would love to pour over this cookbook! Always looking for better breakfast ideas. I eat a healthy breakfast – not into this whole chocolate chip muffin business. But my oatmeal 7 days a week is like your 7 days a week smoothie – getting a little boring. Hope I win!
Also, I liked you on FB and I liked Diets, Desserts and Dogs on FB.
This looks great! I just started an anti-candida diet today too, so this would be great to have some extra recipes handy that might fit in!
Smiles!
One of our favorite breakfasts is leftover roasted sweet potatoes (baked in their jackets at 400 until soft and oozing) with cinnamon and chopped pecans.
I would love this book, I have the biggest issue with breakfast, this would be a huge help!
Thanks!
I too have the same problem with breakfast. It is definitely the most challenging for us. While my husband is not, I am hung up on what the classics are for breakfast. I need to learn how to change my mind set. Maybe the book would help, hint hint!!! Lol
would love to win…I need new ideas for breakfast!
I'd love to win this. We are gluten-free and just went dairy-free for my daughter and I am struggling with breakfast options. Thanks!
I like you on Facebook. Thanks!
Yesterday, my daughter was diagnosed as intolerant to milk/whey, wheat/gluten, and eggs. So we are doing a crash course in lifestyle change immediatley. This is all very new to us ….but this looks like a GREAT book to have! It seems rather difficult to find breakfast recipes that don't include egg or milk–even if they are gluten free. Yet, your book covers all her intolerances! How exciting!
Would love to win this.
I like DDD on FB.

Just liked you on Facebook and we would love to have a copy. Our son Logan is autistic and we just started a GFCF diet, and being able to take out the sugar would be fantastic!!! 🙂
This looks like a book for me! I can not have dairy, soy, gluten, or egg. There is more but those are the biggies!
I find in very changelling to feed myself. Sometimes I am so lost, I am stuck eating foods that make me sick.
Your book looks like a perfect fit for me. Thank you!
This would come in handy at our house! I'm newly gluten-free and still trying to figure out some new recipes!
I would LOVE to win this book. I recently found out my 15 month old son is allergic to wheat, milk, peanuts, and eggs. This has overwhelmed me, but blogs like yours have reassured me that life can and will go on! Does you know of a Cheerio-type alternative out there? I am dying for some finger food snacks for him! He is in the process of learning how to eat table food so it would need to be highly dissolvable.
Help!!!
totally need some new ideas since our 3.5 yr old daughter is allergic to wheat, eggs, milk, peanuts, soy, etc.
Don't enter me in the giveaway, but don't you just love Ricki's recipes? I have Sweet Freedom too – her imagination is amazing.
Yum!
Looks Good!

*oh, yes please
We are just starting our Gluten free diet here. My 2.5 year old has had issues and it was suggested that we go GF. I have already noticed a big difference in the 4 or 5 weeks that she's been off of it. She's a VERY picky eater so I'd love some more ideas of what to feed her!! Thanks for the chance to win.
Great review of her ebook Heidi! Love the pic and your description of your experience with Ricki and her creations 🙂 For some reason I am not getting your posts in my email anymore. I'll try signing up again. xo
When my daughter was diagnosed with a severe gluten intolerance at age 2, I was at a total loss as to what to feed her for breakfast. She couldn't have eggs either. She drank a LOT of pediasure. I would LOVE more ideas! I'd love to get this book!
I would love some new morning food ideas!!!
