From my family to yours, we wish you all A Very Happy and Safe Gluten & Allergen-Free Thanksgiving!

  1. oh how fun 12 days of cookies! woohooo! by the way, just got the yummy earth suckers yesterday…the kids are off their sugar high for the day. We will have to ration those! =0) Thanks again.

  2. Congrats to the winners… Heidi, I can honestly say that the feeling is mutual. As a newbie of this way of eating having your website to come to and learn from has made this so much easier to deal with. I've learned about new products and techniques that would have taken me forever to figure out without you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a nice break (but don't forget to come back:)

  3. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with a week off. Plus that gingerbread house you spoke of.

If you have a dry pitcher for your vitamix just stick your sugar in there with a Tbsp or 2 of arrowroot per cup of sugar.

Presto chango, powdered sugar. It's the bomb!

    • Laurel,

I think you need to come to my house and cook with me…can you imagine the fun we would have? πŸ˜€

      • Oh yeah, where do you live?

        • I'm in New Mexico, you?

          • Texas. New Mexico is beautiful though. My in laws used to go to Rio Doso. My husband and I have been to of course, Santa Fe and Taos. I always wanted to go back, especially to the Taos area even if it is an art community it's still gor-ge-ous. I love the desert.

I love to cook and I love your blog because I got tired or experimenting on my own. Now I do it vicariously through you. I just love that you've so generously given us this forum to share our trials, tribulations and most of all solutions because everyone deserves treats to die for not from.

            Happy blogcation.

          • My husband is originally from Harlingen, Texas!

We have friends in Ruidoso and it is really beautiful there. We also love to go to Santa Fe and Taos for weekend getaways…there aren't nearly as many trees in the Albuquerque area (and I'm originally from Ohio so I miss my "green," but the lack of humidity, the gorgeous mountains and breathtaking sunsets out here are definitely worth the brown terrain, LOL!).

The experimentation is definitely fun for me, but I won't lie, it does get discouraging and tiring at times (especially when you have 14 flops in a row). Eggs have by far been the most challenging to figure out, and I'm not even close to understanding the science behind the particular role of eggs in various baked goods (gluten and dairy were a breeze by comparison).

I haven't even begun to explore the corn issue yet.

My head hurts just thinking about it, which is why I usually don't slow down long enough to be alone with my thoughts…the emotion of it all just might take me down (and I'm not even talking about the food per se).

            I hope you have a phenomenal Thanksgiving…be safe! πŸ˜€

  4. Happy Thanksgiving Heidi! Thanks for all you do. You help so many of us. It is deeply appreciated. I point all the "newbies" I come in contact with to your blog because I know that they will find help and hope here. Many blessings. I am truly thankful for you!!

    • Happy Thanksgiving to you too Tai!

What is going to be on your menu this year (that is allowed on your elimination diet?).

Please let me know if you need any help finding a substitute for something, I'd love to help if I can. πŸ˜€

  5. YAY!! Congrats to Carrie and Dina!!! Good luck with your recipes! You can find corn-free powdered sugar. I find it in the specialty section in one grocery store and with the other sugars in another. I think it’s Wholesome Sweeteners, but unsure as I am out right now.

  6. You are the bestest! I am so proud of you for taking the week off! Enjoy, have fun, and have a wonderful holiday. xoxo

    • Aww, I think the same of you my friend. To be sure though, it ain't no vacation…I am having trouble with egg-free royal icing that will be strong enough for a gingerbread house (the recipe I emailed to you was a no go, so save yourself the time and money).

Since we never eat the houses we build, I may just make real royal icing…either that or use a glue gun. πŸ˜‰

      Have you found one yet?

  7. 12 days of cookies? How fun! Have a fabulous Thansgiving beautiful! xo

  8. A week off? You? Gosh, I hope it's true, but I don't believe it. LOL Your brain will still be creating amazing recipes and methods! πŸ˜‰

Can't wait for Maggie's 12 Days of Christmas and so happy that you are part of it; that definitely makes it even more special! πŸ™‚

Congrats to the big winners! I was a slacker and didn't get over here to enter in time. However, I won that Chavrie with the very cool chip/dip set thingy from her a while back, so it really wasn't my turn anyway.

xoxo and have a very happy, relaxing Thanksgiving, dear,

    • Hi Shirley!

Ha! You're correct, it's not a real week "off" but I needed to remove the risk of losing hours of the day to "Google Research" (my hubby actually took my laptop with him to the office today, LOL!). My ADD is a serious struggle and I definitely need to "get into the glutadoodle zone" right now…time is of the essence and I have SO MANY new tweaks to make from last year (dairy, synthetic dyes, eggs and now corn for me).

I think I am going to start taking photos of all my flops to share with everyone, a few have been really funny! If I don't laugh, I will never stop crying over the utter madness of it all… πŸ˜€

I have one more Chavrie/Alouette post to do (with another giveaway), then I will be done with the dairy products for good. I'm reading Alisa's book Go Dairy Free and I love her section on cheese addiction (she's right, there really is no true substitute…I think it will just be a matter of time and distance to overcome the craving, I'll get there).

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours my sweet friend, I just love you and all you do for us in the gluten-free community…you really are GF Mom #1!!

  9. Me again. I definitely agree about the eggs. It is the hardest thing. I used to think it was the butter because of the flavor issues. It's not. It seemed like every time I tried something my head would explode or I'd break out in tears. I can't do corn either I always use another starch.

Anyway due to my love of gingerbread houses and in the spirit of experimentation I'm sending you some love links. Maybe one will work for you with obvious exclusions of soy but that's the easy one.

Many hugs for you and the family. Happy Thanksgiving.

look at the last entry on the page for a recipe

this is how they used to do it in the Alps

  10. Heidi, you're one of the bloggers I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving! Best wishes for success with your gingerbread house and other goodies. I'd love to see some of those flops you talk about — that's probably what my normal stuff looks like πŸ™‚

Hugs to you and your family!

  11. what a delicious blog! here is so many uncanny inspirations!

    have a nice time,

  12. Hi , I am new to your blog gluten free taste of home sent me I get your news letter now glad to be here

  13. I have a favorite christmas recipe that needs to be remade. My son is allergic to eggs, gluten, dairy among other things. This is a cherry coffee cake. If you do things like that please email me and I'll send you the recipe. It is his favorite and he misses it. He has lost a lot of weight and I'd like to surprise him with this for the holidays.

Please help do a remake on a recipe if you can.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Paula – a GF Mom with a son that is GF, DF and Egg Free.
