How You Can Help Send Children To A Gluten-Free Summer Camp!

There’s an age-old saying that, in my opinion, has never been more true…

“Tis better to give than to receive.”

And the holiday season is the perfect time for you to give back to the gluten free community!

In the spirit of the giving season, I want to bring your attention to a fundraiser I’m helping promote this week for a great gluten-free cause.  A cause that is near and dear to my heart, gluten free summer camp for kids!

With all the birthday parties, classroom parties, sports banquets, etc. that our gluten sensitive kiddos navigate throughout the year (such troopers they are!), can you imagine how it would feel to spend five days with other gluten free kids having nothing but fun and not worrying one single bit about the food?  To be able to put aside all their grownup concerns and just be a carefree kid like everyone else…the mere thought brings tears to my eyes.

This week, giving just $2 of your hard-earned money will go toward providing scholarships for children to attend a gluten-free summer camp hosted by the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF) next summer in Southern California.

And there’s a bonus because for this week only, donating $2 doesn’t mean you’re just donating $2…

From today through Sunday, December 25, 2011, Gluten-Free Saver has partnered with Van’s Natural Foods to raise money to send children to next summer’s CDF-sponsored summer camp, and Van’s is matching all donations up to $1,000!

The goal is to raise $2,000 – and when you donate $2, you’re really contributing $4!

You can read more about the fundraiser here: www.glutenfreesaver.com.

The summer camp will be held in San Bernardino in Southern California from July 30 to August 3, 2012, and it’s open to all 7 – 15 year old gluten intolerant and gluten-sensitive children – not just those diagnosed with celiac disease.

Sure, receiving gifts this time of year is always fun, but the feeling of knowing that your generous donation of just $2 can bring a tremendous amount of joy to a young child… well, now that’s priceless.

Please help reach the goal of donating $2,000 to the Celiac Disease Foundation this week.  Every $2 helps!  And if you think about it…that’s less than the cost of 2 slices of gluten free bread! 😉

YES! I want to help send a child to a gluten-free summer camp and donate $2 right now!

P.S. 100% of all donations will go directly to Celiac Disease Foundation.

P.P.S. If you’re feeling extra generous this holiday season, and you aren’t limited to donating just $2 – you can give as much money as your heart desires!

P.P.P.S.  I want to go to camp too!  Do you think I could pass for a more “mature looking” 15 year old?  Nevermind, don’t answer that.

  1. Man…I sure wish there was a camp like this out our way (Ohio). Even free, this camp would cost way too much for us to fly our kids out to. Bummer. But I'm all for donating to it for others that can get there!!! Oh…and you know, I was so thinking the same thing about myself regarding the 'passing for a more mature 15 yr old"…ha ha ha! 😉

  2. Hey Heidi, we all love the idea of gluten-free summer camp, don't we? I actually know (online) a gf homeschooling blogger who sent her two kids to this camp last summer, and they LOVED it! But I wanted to mention for Heather and others that there actually quite a few gluten-free summer camps throughout the U.S. Here's the listing from last year from Katie Chalmer's site: http://www.katiechalmers.com/15gfcamps.html I didn't check the individual links, but I would presume that most, if not all, of these camps will be held again this year and have the dates scheduled already. There are some that would be much closer to Ohio. 🙂

    xoxo,

    Shirley

There is a camp in Rhode Island called Camp Celiac–I took my son for his first year this summer (it's been there for over 10 years) and I also volunteered as a nurse for them for the week–so I experienced the camp from that perspective–WONDERFUL. My son made friends walking his same path and cannot wait to see them again next summer. They also have scholarships available. Slots open in January! http://campceliac.org/

  4. That a great cause, I have added a link from my twitter, not that my 20 or so followers will have a huge impact but if it helps at all then at least I have done a bit
