Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free Hamburger Buns (and a Giveaway!)

Isn’t that a pretty hamburger bun?

And yes, it’s as soft and moist as you might be imaging it to be.

While I couldn’t eat any of the buns from the complimentary package I recently received from Canyon Bakehouse for this review, I know how moist and fluffy they are because I was able to enjoy them for a short period of time before I discovered my corn allergy last fall.

My mother-in-law made me promise to share her opinion with you too (this blogging business really is a family affair for us, LOL!):

“The Canyon Bakehouse Buns are the closest thing to real bread I’ve had since going gluten-free.”

Well there you have it folks, this is a “real” hamburger bun and quite frankly, I think they are better than Udi’s new gluten free hamburger buns (I know, *gasp*).ย ย  After much anticipation for Udi’s gluten free hot dog and hamburger buns (seriously, I had been anxiously waiting for those for over a year!), I sneaked a taste when I was at the Gluten and Allergen Free Expo in May (this is how I discovered my allergic reaction to corn is severe sinus congestion).ย  While I think the Udi’s GF hamburger buns are good, they are a bit on the dry side (and not very soft) right out of the package, but a little nuke in the microwave helped to correct that issue (assuming you have access to a microwave and aren’t camping in the middle of the woods somewhere).

The Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free Hamburger Buns however, are perfect right out of the bag (although I liked toasting them on the grill for a wee bit, but I used to do that with my glutonium-filled buns too).

For another opinion, check out this post over at Foodista: Udi’s vs. Canyon Bakehouse: Hamburger Bun Showdown.

If I’m not mistaken, I was one of the first bloggers to review Canyon Bakehouse back in early 2010 (you can read my review here), and I just heard through the grapevine that they will be releasing a gluten free caraway bread (a.k.a. “mock rye”) sometime in 2011…game on for all you Gluten Free Reuben lovers out there! ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. Amanda Schmidt says

I am almost getting tired of bunless burgers, I haven't bought any of the hamburger buns in the store cause they are SO expensive… and well as a poor college student I would rather buy the whole foods and skip the buns n such… but I would be more likely to buy them if I knew I liked them first! These look tasty!

  11. Mmmm…bacon…with green olives. Oh for the yum!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. I secretly like mayonnaise on my burgers. It's weird, I know, but I tried it a couple of years ago and realized that it's actually good if you use quality mayonnaise. I also like ketchup, mustard, and dill relish.

We're beef or venison burger people around here, but there's a place that serves elk burgers. No bun for me of course. ๐Ÿ™

I've never seen Canyon Bakehouse products before.

    • My ideal burger toppers are grilled onions, mushroom, and Swiss. And mayo (full fat, and be generous with the amount, please!). Gotta love a good burger!

  17. I found out about these buns from the kitchen manager at our local Chrome Horse Saloon & Slop House!! They are amazingly close to the 'bread' I remember.I love the pizza burger they serve! My best advice is to immediately cut the sandwich in half so the bread does not get soggy and the burger is SO big! Also,I think they are best grilled in butter before serving. Helps them stay together while you eat!!

Can't wait til our grocery starts to sell them!

For easy indoor burgers, I am a big fan of Boar's Head pre-cooked microwaveable bacon. It's gluten free and tastes just as good as fresh cooked bacon (minus the smell of course)! I am also a big fan of french fries and ketchup on my burger.

Canyon buns, in my opinion, exceed all other gluten free bread products. My fiance and I just had our first BBQ at our home and served our friends the buns. They had no idea they were gluten free and went out and bought them the next day!

I am a stick-to-the-basics kinda girl. Lettuce, tomato, pickles (lots and lots of pickles) and ketchup.

  212. Favorite burger would have to be black bean – with avocado on top. Mmmm….

  213. I love lettuce and tomato, maybe some port mushrooms and onions that have been caramelized down nice and thick. A bit of mayo and maybe some dijonnaise. Maybe some cheese, depending on my mood.

We love a good chopped steak burger off the grill on gluten free buns (although, gluten free buns are impossible to find here). I have tried a few on-line recipes, with no luck. The birds would not even eat what I had tried to bake. Three of my girls can't have gluten, so I have tried making a few breads/buns from on-line sites and recipes. Have not perfected that yet! Waste of money thus far.

  216. I love any and all burgers. Portabello mushrooms with proschutio and provolone cheese, beef with bacon and cheese and marinated tequila chicken breasts with Asaigo cheese, yummy

  217. Oh my, it will be a statistical miracle if I win at this late date! But you made them sound too good not to try!

My favorite topping on a turkey burger is salsa and avocado. Mmmmm.

  218. I love grilled red onions and peppers or baby spinach and fresh tomato slices only burger!

  227. Since I usually eat hamburgers with a fork these days and leave off the bun completely (I just haven't found any glutten free ones worth eating) I make them super sloppy and overload them with lots of stuff! I use fresh sauted mushrooms, grilled onions, chedar cheese, avacado and anything else I can think of. I usually dip the bites in thousand island dressing and yum!

  228. Seriously…the best gfree burger buns ever. They even convinced my man to no longer need regular buns on burger night! That's sayin' somethin'!!!
