Q & A with Doctor Vikki

Dr. Vikki Petersen, a Doctor of Chiropractic and Certified Clinical Nutritionist, is founder of the renowned HealthNOW Medical Center in Sunnyvale, California.

She is co-author of  “The Gluten Effect,” a bestselling book that has been celebrated by leading experts as an epic leap forward in gluten sensitivity diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Vikki herself is acknowledged as a pioneer in the field of gluten sensitivity.  Featured in an exclusive interview on CNN Headline News, Dr Vikki is also endorsed by the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and The Gluten Intolerance Group of North America for her contributions to gluten awareness in our country.

After spending 3 years pursuing answers to my family’s ongoing health issues with our local medical doctors, I made the fairly radical decision (radical for me anyway) to fly my family out of state and become official patients of HealthNOW Medical Center in Sunnyvale, CA.

While I still have a few more tests to share (from Cyrex Labs), I am happy to say that after 4 months of treatment and a few permanent lifestyle changes, my family and I are healthier and happier than we’ve ever been.

    Hello, my name is Scotty in excellent health and no family history of auto immune diseases. The past year and a half a have been been dealing with some unexplained heath problems. I am a 30 year old professional Kickboxer, that doesn't smoke, drink, or even eat fast food. I have always have a good diet, especially when preparing for a fight. This last year I started having unexplained panic attacks for the first time in my life. After countless doctors appointments and endless blood work, my endo and GP doctors concluded the increased anxiety, stool irregularities, cloudy head, bury vision, and various other symptoms, is due to "stress".

    The only abnormalities that the doctors were able to find after all the blood work and scans, was that my thyroid tpo antibodies and prolactin are elevated; tpo: 388 and prolactin: 21. The tpo and prolactin have fluctuated only slightly the past year, however, the tpo jumped from 250 to 388 after 6 months. Needless to say I feel like crap, and although I am not having panic attacks anymore, I am still having wired vision problems, intense exercise intolerance, foggy head, and digestive issues that only get better with taking probiotics.

    I am beginning to feel as though my doctors have a cocky cutter approach to medicine in the since that I am being told that nothing is wrong with me because aside from the tpo and prolactin being raised, all of my blood work is normal. The more I research about diet and health problems, the more I find out about the connection between food allergies/interferences and auto immune disorders. I have been trying to cut out gluten from my diet, however, I am a little apprehensive about it without fully knowing if I am intolerant to it. I have an appointment with allergist this week and I want to know what I should ask to help solidify that in fact something in my diet is causing my condition. My doctors have me in this 1.5 year long limbo waiting for my thyroid to fall out of the "normal" range and until then I cannot seem to get them to take me seriously.

    As I stated I am a professional athlete who is in excellent shape and I know my body better then anyone else. The doctors have been telling me I'm just stressed out but I know there is more to it. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could lend me as far as blood work and tests to get and what specialists I should see. Thank you for you time!

    We are not sure right now, but my 2 year old granddaughter , we were just told she is type1 diabetices and she also has the antibidies for celiac. They also say it is dorment. How long if ever will she get celiac? I have celiac and is their a good chance I could get dibetices?
    I am very confused .
