Honeybaked Hams are now Gluten-Free!

Every year, my mom buys a Honeybaked Ham for New Years Day. So for the past 5 years, I have had to steer clear because the ham glaze contained gluten.

Well, this is no longer a necessity because Honeybaked Hams and their glaze are now gluten-free! Woo-Hoo!

Check it out: The Honeybaked Ham Company.

UPDATE (4/20/2011):

I originally posted the above information in December of 2009.  As of today (4/20/11), the Honeybaked Ham website still says this:

14. Does your ham contain gluten? No, our ham and glaze do not contain gluten.

Apparently, this is not the case at all Honeybaked Ham Stores.  Please read the comment section below to read the varied personal experiences left by my wonderful readers.  As always, read ingredient labels and if you have questions, do not hesitate to call or email The Honeybaked Ham Company.

  1. Thanks for posting this – after reading all of the bulletin boards out there, I was convince honey baked ham glaze was not gluten-free! It's nice to know that they now answer this question on their website. So thanks for sharing!

  2. Wendy Kuzmick says

I was at Honey Baked today & they told me that there meats & glazes are gluten free. But when I got home & checked the label the glaze contains "wheat starch"…

  3. I got sick at Christmas ham from Honeybaked I bought after hearing the latest hoopla about them being gluten free. When I inquired after the fact the clerk said the ham was gluten free but the sugar glaze is NOT GLUTEN FREE! How irresponsible of them. Why would one expect to be told it was gluten free except for the outside.

  4. Ditto on the glaze not being GF. After having the smoked turkey and ham on Saturday, and then fixing some ham salad on Sunday, I had upset tummy issues and a stuffy schnoz, but didn't know what was causing it (as the dressing I fixed was GFCF, the roasted veggies were GFCF) and the ham and turkey were supposed to be GF. I guess I just need to cut off a swatch of the glaze before indulging. Just a bummer they can't make it without the wheat starch.

  5. I had a sample of the ham tested through the celiac sprue association

and it tested negative for gluten. HONEYBAKED HAM TESTED GLUTEN FREE

    • The glaze used by some Honeybaked stores is gluten-free, but others still used the sugar based one that contains wheat starch. You need to check with your individual store!

  6. I just talked to the manager again and she called her local supervisor or rep and said their Honey Baked ham is NOT Gluten Free.. DARN, I was so excited to get the ham for Easter this year…

    • Sheri,

Thank you for the update…I just added an update to this post. I think Honeybaked Ham needs to add a disclaimer to their website too!

I'm so sorry things didn't work out they way you had hoped, but it's fairly easy to bake a ham (if that is any consolation). 😀

      Happy Easter!
